During the course of Year 9, students are guided in considering the implications of making choices for GCSE subjects.
Most students take nine or ten GCSEs. This is as many as is recommended by the leading universities. We do not generally encourage GCSEs to be taken early unless it is highly likely that the pupil will achieve grade A* or A. Otherwise it is disadvantageous when applying to university.
All students take GCSEs or IGCSEs in English, Mathematics, Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Science/Additional Science) and a language (French, German or Spanish).
All students also study a further three option subjects from French, German, Spanish, Geography, History, Religious Studies, Art & Design or Textiles, Drama, Music, Physical Education, Design and Technology. Not every combination of these subjects will be possible. We construct our timetable anew each year on the basis of pupil choices.
Students continue with Games, PSHE, tutorials and activities.
