Boarding Blog

Boarders make up one third of the student population of Ashford School. Most of the 150+ boarders are full boarders so live at the school all of the time. This makes for a vibrant life at weekends and in the evenings when boarders have free time. Many of our boarders come from overseas with significant numbers from Africa, Europe and China. This rich cultural mix is an important and valued part of Ashford School.

"I would like thank you and all the team for everything you did for my daughter last year: the encouraging way of education at Ashford School has done her a great deal. She is now a very happy teenager, which is the most important, in addition to now being bilingual." Y9 Parent

The boarders live in one of three Houses within the school campus: one for junior boys and girls aged 10-13; one for senior boys aged 14-18 and one for senior girls aged 14-18.

As in all areas of the school, our boarding provision is underpinned by a strong pastoral support system. Pupils are cared for in a friendly and stimulating environment with an excellent range of facilities at their fingertips. Boarding creates the opportunity for students of different ages and from different backgrounds and cultures to come together to live, work, enjoy themselves and develop skills for life. They help and support one another, discover their talents in the range of activities on offer and form lifelong friendships.

  • At Ashford, we aim to prepare our pupils for life. In a supportive and caring environment we offer pupils opportunities and guidance in order to develop qualities such as compassion, resilience, boldness and self-reliance. Developing these life skills enables pupils to become responsible and mature members of society.
  • We value and celebrate diversity and individuality. We offer a wide range of activities and trips and encourage our pupils to take risks and challenge themselves to discover strengths, talents and skills which will further develop their independence, self-confidence and determination.
  • Pupils are encouraged to aim high and strive to fulfil their potential at Ashford. We celebrate success and achievement, no matter how great or small, and foster the spirit of mutual peer support.
  • Our pupils come from a diverse range of backgrounds and we celebrate the diverse range of cultures and faiths within the boarding community, offering opportunities for pupils to discover more about and embrace the world around us.
