Pupils at Ashford School benefit from a highly specialised, planned and focused Swim Programme which runs from Year 4 upwards. Led by Performance Director Denise Walsh and Team Manager Kristen Estcourt the programme sees intense training opportunities and development plans for every pupil. Ashford School has two 20-metre indoor swimming pools as well as a learner pool, ensuring pupils can swim all year round.
Senior School Swimming
Weekly lessons are given to every pupil in Years 7, 8 and 9 where they are taught a variety of strokes by our specialised coaches. The school also has a Development Team of 18 pupils which trains five times and a week and a highly competitive Performance Team, again of 18 pupils, which trains seven days a week and competes at county and national level.
As well as galas and competition, pupils also have the chance to work towards life-saving qualifications.
Prep School Swimming
Children in Years 1-6 are taught to swim as part of the curriculum. However, a lot of children choose to start learning in Nursery and Reception; many will have achieved a number of badges by the time they move into Year 1. They enjoy both class lessons and a variety of after-school clubs and squads focusing on endurance and competitive swimming.
The school's indoor swimming pools enable a focus on a lot of competitive swimming as well as ensuring every child can swim. Competitions are held against local primary and prep school throughout the year, as well as regular appearances in the Kent Primary Schools and IAPS competitions.
The Prep School Swim Programme sees intensive coaching for Years 4-6. In addition to the normal swimming sessions that are offered as part of the school's co-curricular activities programme, 23 swimmers form part of a Development Squad. These swimmers have the opportunity to train five times a week and form the main part of the Performance Swim Team. A number of galas are held throughout the year focusing on both the performance and development of these swimmers within the school.
