Rugby at Ashford School is open to both boys and girls and training starts in Reception. Students are regularly selected to play at representative level. Recently we've had boys qualify for Kent County, the East Kent U14s and Ashford RFC 2XV. Boys and girls also play for Cranbrook RFC, Aylesford Bulls and Folkestone RF.
We are well equipped with facilities and the rugby teams use in particular the school's extensive pitches at Ashford and Great Chart, the fitness suite, Trixter bikes and boxing fitness classes. In addition, there is a focus on off-season, pre-season and on-season conditioning programmes using a range of strength power, SAQ and plyometric training as well as specific individual and team skill and technique sessions.
Our close links with Saracens, Ashford RFC and Canterbury RFC mean our students benefit from specialist coaching sessions. We also run tours including the Holland rugby tour, Saracens specialist school training days, Saracens camp, Saracens match day and masterclasses, Ashford RFC training sessions and RFU specialist training sessions. Our Head of Rugby, Marc Boyd, is a Community Coach and East Kent U14 forwards coach.
In the next five years plans include Saracens tournaments, Granville League Baba team, 1st XV pre-season camp and South Africa 1st XV tour, as well as more specialist RFU training and increased contact with Saracens.
