Welcome From The Head of Boarding

It’s my pleasure to tell you more about our excellent boarding facilities and ethos.

We have a thriving international boarding community of over 100 boarders.

Boarding creates the opportunity for students of different ages and from different backgrounds and cultures to come together to live, work, and enjoy themselves and develop skills for life. They help and support one another, discover their talents in the range of activities on offer and form lifelong friendships.

As in all areas of the School, our boarding provision is underpinned by a strong pastoral support system. Pupils are cared for in a friendly and stimulating environment with an excellent range of facilities and opportunities at their fingertips.

We offer a wide range of activities and trips and encourage our pupils to take risks and challenge themselves to discover strengths, talents and skills which will further develop their independence, self-confidence, and determination.

My hope is for all members of the boarding community to seek to achieve the best that they can in all things, with guidance and encouragement from House staff, and thus enter the world beyond Ashford School as confident, educated and purposeful young adults.

Please take the opportunity to visit us in the Garden Of England to see for yourself what a wonderful place this is to live, learn and flourish.

Mike Keogh
Head of Boarding

Mike’s boarding journey began aged 11, when he joined a state boarding school in Somerset. Mike comes from a military background so boarding provided him with stability and a chance to flourish in a community that felt like an extension of his own family. It is this 7-year experience as a boarder that led Mike to becoming a PE teacher and ultimately returning to working in a boarding environment. Along the way Mike has worked in residential summer schools and sports camps/academies, together with time in Chinese and Indian boarding schools. Within the UK, Mike has worked in boarding schools in Brighton and London, before moving to Germany where he was Head of Boarding for 5 years. Mike has a real passion for boarding and believes it is a great privilege to live and work in residence.

Mike enjoys spending time with his family and engaging in his young daughter’s early development. In his spare time, Mike enjoys making the most of the great outdoors, wildlife, and nature, whether he is on two feet, two wheels or on the water! Football also remains a big part of his life through coaching, playing or supporting his favourite teams. In the past, Mike competed in amateur triathlons and is keen to rediscover this area of interest.

"We value and celebrate diversity and individuality."
