It’s not just Britain that’s got talent – Ashford has it too! Friday 12 June marked the final opportunity to hear the phenomenal pianist, Erica Xiao before she returns to her native China at the end of her A level studies. Erica played the first movement of Chopin’s thrilling First Piano Concerto, accompanied by the Ashford School community orchestra, conducted by Allan Clay, at Ashford School’s Music for a Summer’s Evening last week.
In turns dramatic and beautifully tuneful, this piece is one of the most demanding of the repertoire, but Erica’s teacher, Mr Stephen Dandridge (head of Ashford School’s keyboard facility) is certain that she is up to more in the future:
“Erica is an exceptional talent and has a real understanding and love for this composer. This is romanticism of the highest order and Erica has found the poetry and the drama within Chopin’s exquisite masterpiece”.
As well as music from Beethoven, Bach, A “Lion King” medley and a jazz band, the audience were served a superb three course meal between musical items.
