All Girls Rugby

In September 2009, Ashford School decided to create the first known all-girls contact rugby team for the school and last week the Red Team took a landslide victory ar the RFUW Emerging Schools Girls' Rugby Tournament, winning all of their 4 games played! Only their second ever official game/set of matches, this team looks set to plough their way onward from here.

An amazing start to this determined group of students, the popularity of the game amongst the female members of the school has led to the creation of 2 all-girl teams, the Red Team and the Blue Team. For students in the U15 category (Years 8 to 10) the tournament was in round-robin style which meant every team played each other.

The Red Team soon showed themselves to be the alpha side, beating Folkestone Academy 10-nil, Dartford Grammar 5-nil and The Barbarians (a team made up of other schools with a smaller number of rugby participants) 25-nil. Impressively, despite the intimidation of playing a team that had beaten every other participant so far, the Blue Team at Ashford held their own for their match and were only beaten by one try: 15-10.
