Fascinating China

A party of 33 students, staff and parents have just returned from a highly successful study tour of the main cities of China including Beijing, Xian and Shanghai. Led my expert guides in each city and throughout by our official guide, Lilly, we enjoyed the sights, smells, culture, music, food and history of this bustling country. We also had a chance to meet with Ashford School students who live in China and were proud to be able to show us their home.

The things which have made the greatest impression are:

  • the density of people
  • the greyness of the weather
  • the variety of smells
  • the friendliness of the people and their interest in us as westerners
  • the busyness of the people everywhere and at all hours
  • the scary driving conditions - it is a free for all at junctions
  • the ability of the Chinese to produce copies of any western product from cars to clothing
  • the skill of the ancient Chinese most obvious from the artwork and the construction of the Terracotta Army
  • the pace at which China in growing and developing.

China is a fascinating place and we have be privileged to have shown the key centres of ancient and modern China by a most excellent and knowledgeable guide, Lilly.
