By raising over £1,600, Ashford School Amnesty international Group has been placed 6th in the country out of hundreds of Amnesty groups. The group organised a series of fundraising events. Individuals took part in sponsored activities relating to certain human rights represented by "Amnesty international" under the title of " These included a ‘sponsored silence' for Amnesty's Freedom of speech campaign and being a ‘slave for a day', highlighting Amnesty's freedom from slavery. Other campaigns represented the right to property, the right to freedom of movement, the right to education as well as many more.
One fundraising day raised £800. That particular event saw some of the pupils wearing specially designed signs all day to highlight the cause they had chosen from a comprehensive guide to the Declaration of Human Rights in the form of a pink Passport. There was also a fantastic cake sale. Some of the cakes included a mystery ingredient (Popping candy!!) Although many of the projects were good fun, the serious message of the important work that Amnesty international do was clear and we would like to thank all students, parents and staff who have supported the Ashford School group's efforts.
