Ties And Tights For Human Rights
Ashford School Amnesty group Held a series of events to support "Protect The Human Week" This nationwide event helps to celebrate human rights and raise money for Amnesty international. This year, Ashford school Amnesty group had a talent competition to raise awareness for those who are not free to entertain. In particular the Burmese comedian Zarganar who has been imprisoned for 35 years for talking to foreign journalists. The talent competition ran alongside stalls that enabled students to send postcards with Zarganar's face on urging for his release. There was a cake stall selling Amnesty coloured cakes (pink, yellow and green) Daisy, a year 7 pupil has emerged as somewhat of a singing sensation. Not only has she taken part in the ‘Wye's got talent' competition, she was also the winner of the Amnesty talent competition, singing and playing the electric guitar in spectacular style! Students were also asked to ‘Wear Ties and Tights For Human Rights' which added a great deal of colour and excitement to the day.
