No Ordinary Organists!

On Saturday 30 October 2010 the two organ students at Ashford School, Martin and Matthew, entered for the Kent County Organists' Association Organ Festival competition held in All Saints Church, Maidstone. Both had only started having organ lessons eight months earlier.

Matthew, totally undaunted by competing in the Open Class against two advanced organists, who had both studied at the Royal College of Music, played his piece perfectly, and was awarded a prize for "The most promising student", receiving his cheque from the hands of the Adjudicator, Dr David Flood, Organist of Canterbury Cathedral.

Martin, playing the set pieces (of Grade 4/5 difficulty) in the Elementary Class, was highly commended for his progress in such a short time, and for his expressive playing.
