Athletes from across the South of England descended on Parliament Hill Fields in London at the weekend for the 2011 championship cross country races. Max Nicholls, racing in the U15 age group, lined up with 270 competitors to face 4500m of mud and hills in freezing conditions. He took the lead at the half way mark and never looked back, charging down from Kite Hill into the finish with a 50m lead and a time of 15 min 29 seconds, 20 seconds ahead of the field. His victory marked the first under 15 boys win for Kent at this championship in well over a decade. Younger brother Euan came in 15th out of 250 in the under 13 age group and also helped secure team 1st. With the English National at Alton Towers on 19th February, the National Intercounties in Birmingham 5th March and English Schools Championship in Nottingham 19th March, there is plenty still to work towards this season for the county's top athletes. Well done to both Max and Euan, we look forward to hearing of more success throughout the season.
