Love is in the Air!
Year 4 took to the stage in Playford's Palladium (Friday assembly) With Valentine's Day just around the corner; the theme of the assembly was Love. The audience were transported back to Ancient Rome Where Emperor Claudius had demanded that all young men remain unmarried and faithful to the Roman Army. St Valentine began to perform secret marriage ceremonies for the young soldiers. This Angered the Emperor and Valentine was thrown in jail. On the eve before his death, he wrote a love note to a young woman signing the card "from your Valentine." This was the birth of the valentine card.
The play then moved on to Cilla Black's Blind Date. The winning contestant said that respect, kindness, patience were the basis of love rather than money and possessions. The play was extremely funny but had a very serious message as we come up to a day that can sometimes be overrun with purchasing gifts and grand gestures rather than remembering the true meaning of the day, that of the sacrifice that St Valentine made for love.
