Madrigals from the Rooftops

Madrigals from the Rooftops
There was a sight to remember at the Senior School on Friday as the Chamber Choir took to the roof tops in celebration of May.

Members of staff and 15 students climbed the steep ladder to the top of Coronation and entertained onlookers far below.

Organised by Head of Music, Allan Clay, the event has become something of a tradition. "This is our fourth year," he said. "For many years the choirs of Cambridge and Oxford colleges have sung madrigals to welcome May Day at dawn from their college towers. A tower is one thing we don't have at Ashford School, so our May Day celebration takes place from the Coronation Building roof!"

The group sang four madrigals: Fair Phyllis by John Farmer, the Italian madrigal O Occhi Manza Mia by Lassus, and Morley's Sing We and Chant It and Now is the Month of Maying.
