Pope goes to Japan

Congratulations to Amy Pope (Y13) who has won a trip to Tokyo as the winner of a nationwide art competition. Amy's work, "The Sea" is one of ten from the UK that will be exhibited at the International High School Art Competition and had previously formed part of a major "seascape" exhibition of over 100 pieces by Ashford School students at the Sportsman Inn in Seasalter (see the theme).

Included in her prize is:

  • Return ticket to Japan for winner and guardian
  • Accommodation for winner and guardian
  • English-Japanese translator for students/guardians for duration of stay in Japan
  • US$500 in prize money to the student at the awarding ceremony on 27th July
  • One-day guided tour of Tokyo for students and guardians
  • Lunch and dinner on day of award ceremony and on day of tour

The following pieces by Ashford School students were also selected to be sent to Japan for exhibition at the prestigious Ueno Royal Museum in Tokyo at the end of July:

  • Penny Jeffries, "Bug"
  • Ben Nestel, "Wild sea"
  • Lucy Orme, "Reclining nude"
