Nursery (3-4 years)

We welcome children into our large and popular Nursery from the age of 3.

Located within the Prep School at Great Chart, many children transfer through from First Steps and others join the school at this stage. When joining the Nursery, children wear the school uniform and become very much a part of the Prep School.

The Nursery environment is attractive, stimulating and well resourced, and benefits from its own large hall and outdoor learning area.

Children are encouraged to be independent and make full use of all the facilities.

Nursery Care

A real strength of the Nursery is the high level of social interaction between pupils, and with staff. Strong friendships and relationships are formed as children are nurtured in this positive, family atmosphere.

The caring and dedicated staff, all appropriately qualified, respond effectively to the needs of every child.  Their warmth, sensitivity and flexibility ensure that all children feel safe, secure and happy.

The number of sessions a child can do ranges from a minimum of three sessions per week, to a full-time place. The Nursery operates within school times and term dates, however, full wrap around care is available outside of these times.

Foundation Stage

The Nursery day is lively and exciting with a focus on learning through play based activities.

The curriculum combines six broad areas of learning and development, which form the foundation upon which all future learning is based: personal, social and emotional development; communication, language and literacy; problem solving, reasoning and numeracy, knowledge and understanding of the world; physical development and creative development.

Continuous and ongoing observational assessments enable us to ensure all children progress at their own rate, and carefully planned activities appropriately facilitate their development and support their learning. Parental involvement at this early stage in a child's school experience is extremely important and therefore we welcome parents into school and keep them well informed about their child's progress and well being.
