Pre-Prep (4-7 years)

Ashford Friars Pre-Prep School (including the Nursery class) is now located with the Prep School in Great Chart.

Last year we celebrated the opening of our superb new facilities which include 18 new classrooms, a library, two halls and kitchens. Classrooms for the Pre-Prep are spacious, attractive and well resourced. Children benefit from access to a well equipped library, ICT suite and excellent sports facilities including a gym, sports hall and swimming pool.

The family atmosphere within the school is created by friendly, welcoming staff and lively, happy children. Parents are encouraged to become involved in the life of the school and work in partnership with teachers and staff.

Teaching and Learning

Children are taught in small classes, mainly by their class teacher and supported by teaching assistants. They also benefit from specialist teachers for PE, music and French.

The concept of adventurous learning that brings out the best in everyone is underpinned throughout the daily routine.

Children learn through exploration and enquiry and the creative curriculum enables all children to fulfil their potential, academically, creatively, physically and socially. As the children work both independently and collaboratively they develop a real love of learning and the skills to make them life long learners.

Personal and social development is embedded in all aspects of learning and we have high expectations for manners, behaviour and respect for others.

Focusing on the individual child is at the centre of all our teaching and learning. Children with specific learning needs are given appropriate learning support, enabling them to fully access the curriculum. An extensive programme of clubs and activities, educational visits and special activities motivate the children and extend their learning experiences.
In the Pre-Prep school children follow a daily spelling, reading and numeracy programme. French, history, geography, science and design technology are taught in exciting and sometimes practical weekly blocks, as are PE, music, art and RE which are recognised and valued for the contribution they make to children's overall ability, cultural understanding and attitude towards learning.
