Foundation Stage
The Nursery day is lively and exciting with a focus on learning through play based activities.
The curriculum combines six broad areas of learning and development, which form the foundation upon which all future learning is based: personal, social and emotional development; communication, language and literacy; problem solving, reasoning and numeracy, knowledge and understanding of the world; physical development and creative development.
Continuous and ongoing observational assessments enable us to ensure all children progress at their own rate, and carefully planned activities appropriately facilitate their development and support their learning. Parental involvement at this early stage in a child's school experience is extremely important and therefore we welcome parents into school and keep them well informed about their child's progress and well being.
Pre-Prep
Personal and social development is embedded in all aspects of learning and we have high expectations for manners, behaviour and respect for others.
Focusing on the individual child is at the centre of all our teaching and learning. Children with specific learning needs are given appropriate learning support, enabling them to fully access the curriculum. An extensive programme of clubs and activities, educational visits and special activities motivate the children and extend their learning experiences.
In the Pre-Prep school children follow a daily spelling, reading and numeracy programme. French, history, geography, science and design technology are taught in exciting and sometimes practical weekly blocks, as are PE, music, art and RE which are recognised and valued for the contribution they make to children's overall ability, cultural understanding and attitude towards learning.
Prep
The broad education offered by the curriculum and co-curriculum in Ashford Friars Prep School enables us to bring out the best in everyone. Boys and girls of varied ability, personality and character enjoy school and develop motivation, confidence and self esteem.
Building on the foundations laid during the Nursery and Pre-Prep school years, the Prep school includes all the normal academic subjects of English, maths and science as well as French, PE (including swimming), home economics, design technology, art and music.
With a broad range of ability in the school, our children on average achieve well above national expectations; several gain scholarships to our senior school and our pupils achieve an excellent rate of success in the 11+ Kent test. There is a strong focus on the individual's learning with plenty of differentiation and support for those children with additional needs.
