Curriculum

Academic Studies
An academic school, we follow a curriculum that ensures breadth of experience in the first few years of secondary education and leads to depth in the A Level years. We promote moral, mental, cultural, spiritual and physical development. By specialising in subjects at A level that leading universities value most highly our students have a wide choice of possibilities at Higher Education.

As a guide, in recent years, nearly 90% of Year 13 obtained places at their first choice university, 60% of which were Russell Group and 10% Oxbridge, UCL or Warwick i.e. World top ten universities.

Lessons take place Monday - Friday. Activities take place during the school day or in the evenings and at weekends. Some sports fixtures take place at the weekends and students who are selected for school teams as expected to be available.

Co-curriculum
The co-curriculum is an essential feature of Ashford School and sets us apart from others. We deliberately use the term co-curriculum and not extra-curriculum because it is not an extra for students or teachers. It is at the heart of developing all those valuable and hard to measure personal qualities such as teamwork, perseverance, self-discipline, empathy and leadership.

Alongside the study of specific subjects, all students, throughout their time in the school, must engage in co-curricular activities including physical activity. This removes the burden felt by many teenagers of worrying about what their friends are doing; at Ashford School everyone has the freedom to pursue their interests and have new experiences.

Music, competitive team sport, drama abound; the activities on offer vary from term to term and most students struggle to choose from the 80+ options.

Learning Support
Expert learning support teachers and classroom assistants are available to work with individual students as needed; parents are closely involved in supporting their child.
