Our Summer Telephone Campaigns

Applications for summer 2022 are now open.

The application process is as follows:

1. Complete our online application form demonstrating your suitability for this role and submit it electronically.
2. Telephone/In-person conversation with the Alumni & Development Office to tell you more about the role, and set the date for your telephone interview.
3. A short telephone interview will be conducted before making our final selection.

We have just completed our 2021 Summer Telephone Campaign, during which we raised £18,000 in donations and pledges from our alumni community.

• 6 student callers spoke with over 150 alumni during a 1 week period
• Second telephone campaign run by Ashford School
• The funds raised will go towards the Ashford School Foundation’s Bursary Fund, helping to support talented students here at Ashford School.

The last telethon campaign was held in August 2017, and raised £50,000 in donations and pledges from our alumni and parental community.

• 9 student callers spoke with over 350 alumni and parents over a 2 week period.
• First telethon run by Ashford School.
• The funds raised will help to support students on bursaries, as well as to continue to development Ashford School’s facilities.

What’s in it for me?

Will I receive training? 

• Yes, we will hold a compulsory training session which will provide you with everything you need to know about telephone fundraising and the campaign.

Do I need previous experience? 

• Previous experience is not necessary since you will receive the training session.

Do I need an extensive knowledge of Ashford School? 

• No, you will be given all the information you need to have great conversations with alumni and answer any questions they may have.

Will I be cold-calling Alumni? 

• No. All alumni in our calling pool will have been contacted in advance of the call . Alumni enjoy speaking to current students and recent leavers.

What is the campaign raising money for? 

• The campaign is raising money for the Ashford School Foundation bursary awards.

Can I attend some, and not all of the calling sessions? 

• No. It is very important that you are present for all of the sessions – you will be working on your own to make the calls but it is a team effort. However, if you do need to miss a session for a prior engagement which you cannot rearrange, it will be considered with your application.

Who will I be working for? 

• You will be working for Ashford School’s Alumni & Development Office, and will work with our Alumni & Development Manager Miss Hannah Pinney.

Where will I be working? 

• The training session and calls will both take place at Ashford Senior School.

I think one of the most important things Ashford does is provide bursaries to give those less fortunate a chance at a quality education. With the pandemic slowly coming to an end, as many of us know the hardship facing many will only just be beginning and this telethon will be an amazing way of helping to ease the increased burden that many are going to face financially.

When I was involved a few years ago, it was inspirational to hear some of the stories of those that these bursaries would be going on to help and to bring those stories to those we were calling.

If you’re able to I’d definitely recommend taking part or agreeing to donate, as every donation no matter how large or small will go on to make a huge difference to the lives of those less fortunate.
