Young Author

Year 8 student, William, shared his book ‘There’s a Dragon in my Wardrobe’ with young readers at Lady Joanna Primary School in Wye. He joined a small group of local authors, including Tom Delahunt, Lawrence Pereira, and Eliza Allan.
We asked William about his experience as an author.
“Since I was around 8, I’ve always loved to write stories in old notebooks. My parents suggested I publish one, so I did, and that then motivated me to write again and I have since published a second book, called Kingdom of the Void. A mixture of sci-fi and fantasy.
I didn’t write a plan for my first book like I did my second, due to the fact that I was only 9 when I wrote it. I started writing There’s a Dragon in my Wardrobe during lockdown in 2021 and I used to video call my grandparents and read them a chapter each week. My parents encouraged me to continue and finish the story with the promise we would get it published on Amazon. I have since written another book and this time I took more time to plan and write down my ideas before I started.
I have sold nearly 100 copies of my books and had some good reviews. When I read at the primary school some parents thought I was reading a book that I had bought and was surprised that I had written it myself!
The Dragon in the Wardrobe starts off as a small shy creature but once his owner gets to know him, he becomes a pretty amazing pet. It can get him into trouble with his pest controller dad though, especially when it starts breathing fire… you’d have to buy the book to find out what happens!”You can buy William’s books on Amazon.com
