CCF – Annual Promotion and Award Ceremony

Date Posted: Thursday 03 July 2025

In a stirring display of pride and dedication, the Combined Cadet Force (CCF) of Ashford, Chilmington and Wye School hosted its annual promotion and award ceremony, held in tandem with the poignant remembrance service honouring the 59 Heavy Artillery’s vital contributions during World War II.

Under blazing summer skies, cadets stood tall and marched with precision, welcoming esteemed guests including veterans, regular Army officers, and dignitaries such as Mr. Ian Kelly—visiting all the way from Canada, Mr. Nicholas Sermon, the South East Cadet Expansion Officer and Veterans from The Canterbury Royal Artillery Association.

The ceremony recognised outstanding achievements across the ranks, with Sgt Tristan named Best Senior Cadet and Cadet Ava awarded Best Junior Cadet, celebrating their exceptional leadership and service. A special mention goes to Mr. Bishop and the Canterbury Artillery Association, who generously donated a 25-pounder shell casing as the prize for Best Senior Cadet – a fitting tribute to the artillery heritage honoured on the day.

Mr Burke (CCF-SSI) said “This event marked a proud moment not only for the cadets and their families, but for the broader community who came together in remembrance and celebration. Following the success of the day, cadets can now look ahead to their summer camp. They seem eager for new challenges and a well-earned break.”

A resounding congratulations to all those promoted and recognised!
