Charlie Barker (2024) selected for England U20 Squad

Charlie Barker, a sports scholar who left Ashford School last year after doing his A Levels, played his first match for England’s Under 20 rugby squad. In April he and his team mates traveled to Stade Henri Desgrange, in La Roche-Sur-Yon in France to play against the top U20 team of the Six Nations. The match ended France 27 – 29 England. England’s win was the result of an impressive bounce back by the England players in the second half.
Charlie says: “Playing for England against France, away from home, was an amazing experience. This was my first international appearance and it makes me very proud to say ‘I have played for my country’, the atmosphere was intense but this added to my motivation to perform at my very best level. This season at Saracens has been really tough. Coming back from a bad knee injury wasn’t easy. However, now I am back training for the second half of the season. Playing rugby day-in day-out with Saracens is a dream come true.”
Everyone at Ashford School will want to join us in sending our congratulations to Charlie for such a great start and we look forward to more impressive results in the future.
