The Secret of GCSE Success? ‘Keep fit, work hard, talk to your teachers’
Martha, Francesca and Hannah all stressed how important it was to get organised. Martha said “I bought myself a white board to use in my revision. It was brilliant way to collect my thoughts and remember things while I was revising. £5 on Amazon – best five pounds I ever spent”. Hannah made use of home-made flashcards – another practical and self-sufficient method of constant revision and recall.
Thimal, one of the top performing pupils, began his exam preparation as soon as the GCSE year started in September. “I got organised with my sister who was doing her science A Levels. I found that balance was important, as soon as I felt my energy drop, I would take a break and do something else for a while. Hard work must be balanced with keeping yourself busy.”
Fred said, “Start early and keep going. It makes a huge difference to your motivation.”
Chris kept it simple, “Work hard, don’t let up, focus on getting the results you want.”
Phoebe attributed much of her exam success to keeping fit and eating healthy meals “Swimming and keeping fit was very, very important. I had to wake up early to do my training and that set me on a good path for the rest of the day. I think it made a big difference to my results.”
John Curry, Assistant Head (Middle School), said “The fantastic outcomes from these examinations speak for themselves. Throughout their time at the school, this year group has been particularly supportive of each other, celebrating success and pushing each other on. It is wonderful to see the reward for all their hard work and effort. I am delighted that they have achieved grades that lay a solid foundation for their next steps in life.”
Ashley Currie, Headmaster, echoed Mr Curry’s sentiments saying: “We are very proud of our amazing pupils. These excellent GCSE results demonstrate the dedication, focus and hard work that they put into their exams. This success stems from the joint endeavour between pupils and teachers. We look forward to welcoming them back shortly to being the Sixth Form, where they will continue to build the knowledge, skills and character that will prepare for a bright future beyond school.”
