Our Archives

If you would like to volunteer in the archives, please get in touch with the team by emailing the archive team.

We are always looking to grow our collection of materials relating to the history of Ashford School (including Ashford School for Girls and Friars Prep School), from photos, to past magazines and prospectuses, to uniform and trophies. Please get in touch with the archive team if you would like to send us a submission.

The School has committed to a long-term project bringing the Archive into greater order and, for the first time, making searchable digital copies of our valuable archive photographs, publications and other documents which will be made available for all alumni, parents and current pupils. The Archive includes a digital version of Patricia Earlam’s 1998 Illustrated Centenary History of Ashford School. Pat, the former Senior Mistress, retired after 37 years at Ashford and became the School’s official archivist, compiling and producing for the School’s centenary a 160-page all-encompassing history of the School and a fascinating read for everyone, no matter when they were at Ashford School. Sadly, Patricia Earlam passed away peacefully in February 2005.

The Alumni & Development Office is committed to ensuring that Ashford School’s history (including Ashford School for Girls and Friars Prep School) is visible around the School site. Generously supported by the Ashford School Association, we have installed blue plaques around the East Hill site, which commemorate the History of the School as well as former teachers.

The current locations featured are: Old Alfred, Somerville, Nightingale, Cranmer, Brake, open-air swimming pool, the ‘Quiet Room’, Brabourne, the sixth form common room, the Edwards Room, the Edwards Lawn, the Peace Tree, and the Headley Garden.

There are many sites around both the Prep School and Senior School that have yet to be commemorated with a plaque, and consequently we have opportunities available for our alumni and school community to sponsor the production of plaque.

Blue Plaques cost around £375 to be made, and Garden Plaques cost around £150.
