Bursaries and Assistance

Scholarships may be supplemented by means-tested bursaries to enable students to attend the school where their parents might not otherwise be able to afford the fees. Applications are invited at 11+ (Year 7), 13+ (Year 9) and 16+ (Year 12) only and awards take into account both parents’ income and assets. The level of assistance varies according to individual circumstances. In exceptional cases a bursary may be awarded to a high performing pupil who is not in receipt of a scholarship.

For pupils applying for a boarding place, the bursary award is applied to the day tuition proportion of the boarding fee only; the proportion of the fee which pays for boarding accommodation and associated costs has to be paid in full.

Bursary applications are assessed by a third party company called Bursary Administration Limited (BAL).  BAL are a specialist company who operate across the UK, working alongside a large number of Independent Schools.

It is important to note that the School only has a limited amount of funds to be able to dedicate to financial assistance in any one year and therefore, even though you may qualify for bursary, there is no guarantee that a bursary will be awarded, or that we will be able to award the level of financial assistance required in order to be able to afford the school fees.

Bursaries are reviewed on an annual basis and the level of assistance is adjusted according to changes in your financial circumstances.

The Ashford School Foundation is a charity which provides financial support to a small number of students. This support is provided on a means tested-basis and is normally in the region of 10% of the day tuition fee.

It is possible to be awarded a scholarship in addition to a bursary and support provided by the Ashford School Foundation.

These are available to the children of clergy and take into account the joint income of parents. They are open to 11-18 year olds and are normally held by Anglican clergy although we consider requests from other Christian denominations.

Open to children aged 3-18, we offer a 5% discount to the first sibling, 10% to the second and subsequent siblings who are simultaneously enrolled. Families of four or more children should make individual enquiries.

Open to children aged 10-18, this award offers a 20% discount per child on the boarding fee. It is offered to children of serving Forces personnel who are in receipt of the Continuity of Education Allowance (CEA).

Open to children aged 10-18, a discount is available on the boarding fee for children whose parents are employed by the FCO and in reciept of the Continuity of Education Allowance (CEA).
