Pre-Senior Baccalaureate (PSB) at Ashford Prep School
What is the PSB?
The PSB (Pre-Senior Baccalaureate) is a programme of study for children that aims to prepare them for the challenges of life as young adults academically, personally, socially, culturally and spiritually. It does so by actively developing and tracking knowledge, skills and attitudes. The PSB is about challenging perceptions of school and developing a love of learning. This is best achieved by children developing a clear understanding of their skills and their areas for development.
At the heart of the PSB are the core skills.
- Thinking and learning
- Reviewing and improving
By focusing on the core skills children are best equipped to deal with challenges and provides an opportunity to hone skills that will serve them well later in life – how to be present, how to collaborate, how to be a leader, how to be more independent, how to think out of the box.
The PSB helps our pupils leave Ashford Prep School with a much clearer awareness of their strengths, skills and learning habits.

Recent observations from a PSB Audit at Ashford Prep School
We are thrilled that the PSB team recognise the great impact that adopting this learning skills framework is having on our children’s learning and development during their visit to us in October 2023. Here are a few of their comments:
‘The PSB runs through every aspect of the school and appears to be fully embedded in its culture.’
‘Focus on PSB skills was evident in all lessons, with the specific skill highlighted on the board and on pupils’ iPads. Without exception, lessons were inventive and offered opportunities for skills development. Teachers were confident in their approach, and, across the board, we felt that classroom practice was excellent.’
‘In every lesson observed, a calm, purposeful and respectful atmosphere created ideal conditions for thinking and learning. The pupils’ engagement and enjoyment of learning was evident in every activity and corner of the school’
‘The pupils’ level of digital confidence and fluency is impressive’
