U13 Girls National Indoor Cricket Runners Up 2023

Date Posted: Wednesday 14 June 2023

Ashford School embarked on a journey which started with over 900 schools entering to try and become the best Indoor team in the country. Having gone through preliminary, county, and regional rounds, our girls were filled with high hopes to try and be crowned the best Indoor Cricket team in the country.

The Finals were played on 23rd May at the prestigious MCC Indoor Cricket Centre at Lords Cricket Ground. The tournament was held in a round robin format where the top five schools in the country would face each other.

Ashford girls narrowly lost their first game to a very tough opposition – St. Helen and Katharine School, falling short by 1 run! They came back strongly for their final three games, putting pressure on the opposition each time. We witnessed some calm cricket, tight bowling and exceptional fielding. Their final game of the day would be against a strong Ipswich School. For the first time in the day Ashford would be put into bat first which did not rattle the team, with them finishing on an impressive 126 runs – the highest score of the day!  With an impressive score on the board, we took three wickets in the first over, and a steady momentum kept the run rate down. With some excellent fielding from all the girls they would restrict Ipswich to 91 runs. The girls finished with an overwhelming 35 run win!

With some excellent and thrilling cricket played, the girls finished as runners-up in the ‘U13 Indoor Eights’ National Finals. Congratulations on this fantastic achievement – you showed incredible talent, understanding, teamwork and really enjoyed the journey.

We are enormously proud of you all!
