1. Submit an enquiry alongside your student’s school report and passport copy:
The first step to joining us as a boarder at Ashford School is to contact our Boarding Registrar, Ms Nicola Creasey, with further details about your child and the year they wish to enter, alongside their most recent school report and a copy of their passport. We will use this information to ascertain whether we are able to consider your child for a place.
2. Visit us:
If your student is able to visit us in person, we can arrange a tour. Please contact our Boarding Registrar, Ms Nicola Creasey, for more information.
Alternatively, please encourage your student to view our Ashford School Videos, which are a great introduction to Ashford School and what our students get up to on a day-to-day basis.
3. Register for a place:
If you would like to proceed, you will need to register your student for a place. This can be done by completing our registration form and paying our non-refundable registration fee of £150.
4. Completion of entrance assessments:
Students are required to complete academic assessments in order to allow us to ascertain that the School can support a child’s learning.
All assessments are internally set by our Heads of Department, and provide us insight into a student’s prior knowledge in the subject. For students applying for places in Years 7, 8, 9 or 10, a UKiset test can be taken as an alternative to our entrance assessments.
All assessments must be completed under exam conditions either at Ashford School, at the British Council in your own country, or by arrangement with the Admissions Team.
Summary of academic assessments:
Entry into Years 7 and 8:
Pupils will be assessed through an online test produced by Atom Learning. This multiple choice test assesses English, Non-Verbal Reasoning and Numerical Ability. In addition, pupils who have English as a second language will be required to complete an EAL assessment. Pupils who are unable to complete the Atom and EAL tests in person, will be required to complete the assessments under examination conditions either at their current school, an education agent’s office or at the British Council in their own country.
Alternatively, students may take a UKiset test.
Entry into Year 9:
Subject papers in First Language English Language and Literature OR English as an Additional Language, Mathematics, Non-Verbal reasoning and an online interview.
Entry into Year 10:
Subject papers in First Language English Language and Literature OR English as an Additional Language, Mathematics, Science, Non-Verbal reasoning and an online interview.
We will accept a UKiset test as an alternative to the School’s entrance assessments.
Entry into Sixth Form:
Subject papers in First Language English Language and Literature OR English as an Additional Language, three A level subject papers of the student’s choice and an online interview.
5. Accept the offer of a place:
Once assessments have been marked, the Head of Senior School will decide if a place can be offered. Completion of the online acceptance paperwork (which will be shared at the time of offer) and payment of a refundable deposit should be made in order to secure the place.
6. School reference request and completion of entrance assessments:
Upon acceptance of an offer, and with your permission, a reference from the child’s current school will be requested.
7. Collection of Child Student visa paperwork:
Ashford School holds sponsorship of Child Student visas. The School will assist in collating the necessary paperwork to enable the student to apply for their student visa.
